Alps to the Adriatic is a compact version of the lengthy 1300 km cycling route created for an “Ultimate Ironman” type of race (Race Around Slovenia) which takes place every year. Enjoy these intriguing and scenic sections, climb the Alps and briskly descend down to the raw coastline of the Adriatic. To make everything more doable and rider friendly, we’ve simply just stripped out a few areas from the original 1300 km tour. Nevertheless, It’s still and endurance experience as you will on average notch-up more than 100 km a day, over 5 consecutive days.

DAY 01

DistanceDistance: 108,3 km
DistanceElevation: 665 m

We start at Kamnik, a small city close to Slovenia’s capital – Ljubljana, yet far enough to avoid its hectic and heavy traffic. On the first day you’ll notch-up slightly more than 100 km and climb the first decent hills as a warm-up for the days ahead. This route leads you to the city of Postojna.

DAY 02

DistanceDistance: 106,2 km
DistanceElevation: 553 m

Postojna is a city, half way from Ljubljana to the coast, famous for its well-known cave (Postojna cave) which can also be included along the way. On the second day you’ll pedal slightly more than 100 km but the good thing is – it’s downhill all the way to the coast finishing your riding day in Piran.

DAY 03

DistanceDistance: 136,6 km
DistanceElevation: 1121 m

Piran is without doubt the most charming Slovenian coastal town. Petite and cute! Pop over to the piazza for a morning coffee – a must for every visitor. The plan for day 3 is simple. Go north to Nova Gorica, a city perched on the Italian border. Why not extend your tour with just a few kilometres and visit its sister city Gorizia on the Italian side and enjoy a real Italian espresso.

DAY 04

DistanceDistance: 116,2 km
DistanceElevation: 1647 m

It’s time to say goodbye to the warmer climate typical for the region close to the Adriatic Sea and head towards the mountains. On day 4 you’ll ride 120 km, across the extremely scenic Vršič mountain pass and descend to Kranjska Gora, a ski resort in the winter, but equally an excellent hub for mountaineering and many other outdoor activities throughout the ye

DAY 05

DistanceDistance: 90,3 km
DistanceElevation: 224 m

This is the last day of the journey. Alps to the Adriatic is a round trip so you’ll ride back to the east returning to the city of Kamnik where your riding tour kicked-off 4 days earlier. As we’d like to make the final day a bit easier for you – 90 km should do nicely!
